Vol. 569 No. 3

Written Answers. - General Medical Services Scheme.

Denis Naughten

Question:

310 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Health and Children the breakdown by board area of the payments received by general practitioners for ineligible patients; if any of the general practitioners involved are members of health boards; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17485/03]

The most recent tentative estimate of possible overpayments to general practitioners is €6.870 million, being €6.245 million in respect of capitation and €625,000 in respect of superannuation. A further amount in respect of allowances will be quantified as soon as a sample exercise for that purpose is completed.

I would again stress that these figures are purely indicative since the processing exercise is still under way but nearing completion. Until such time as the exercise is fully complete, it is not possible to say what the extent of the overpayment, if any, is in respect of any general practitioner.
