Vol. 569 No. 5

Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 21 and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy O'Dowd – to ask the Minister for Health and Children to institute an inquiry into the reason for the high number of symphsiotomies carried out in the Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda; (2) Deputy Naughten – the job losses at the Glanbia plant at Rooskey, County Roscommon; the need to replace the jobs lost at Glanbia and Atlantic Mills; and to expedite the postponed investment by Cardinal Health; (3) Deputy Finneran – the job crisis in County Roscommon as a result of the Glanbia Meats decision not to rebuild the meat processing plant at Rooskey, County Roscommon; (4) Deputy Gogarty – the need to cancel the gratuity payable to those Oireachtas Members resigning their local authority seats or else to extend it to those who have given up their seats voluntarily; (5) Deputy Ó Snodaigh – the need for the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform to meet with the Garda Commissioner to agree measures to ensure that existing community policing fora have the confidence of community groups and to address the perceived failure of the Garda to stem or reduce anti-social behaviour, drug dealing and car theft in areas where these policing fora are in existence, such as Rialto and the south inner city; (6) Deputy Deenihan – the need for Dúchas to review its policy of the chemical clearance of rhododendrons in Killarney National Park because of the resulting environmental damage and the growing export potential for rhododendron shoots; and (7) Deputy Durkan – the subject matter of and reply to parliamentary question, reference no. 17315/03, of 19 June 2003.

The matters raised by Deputies Naughten, Finneran, Gogarty and Durkan have been selected for discussion and will be taken at the conclusion of business.
