Vol. 569 No. 5

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Willie Penrose

Question:

111 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for the Environment Heritage and Local Government the position regarding the upgrading of the waste water treatment plant and network in Mullingar; when it is anticipated that works will begin on this project; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18187/03]

The Mullingar sewerage scheme is included in my Department's Water Services Investment Programme 2002-2004 as a scheme to commence construction in 2004. I recently approved the preliminary report for the scheme and it is now a matter for Westmeath County Council to proceed with the preparation of tender documents.

Phil Hogan

Question:

112 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for the Environment Heritage and Local Government when work will commence on the Gowran, Goresbridge and Paulstown water scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18188/03]

This scheme is included in my Department's Water Services Investment Programme 2002 – 2004 to advance through planning. My Department is currently awaiting the submission of revised contract documents for the scheme by Kilkenny County Council.

Phil Hogan

Question:

113 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for the Environment Heritage and Local Government when funds will be made available for a sewerage scheme at Freshford, County Kilkenny; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18189/03]

The Freshford sewerage scheme was fourth on the list of sewerage schemes submitted by Kilkenny County Council in response to my Department's request to local authorities to undertake fresh assessments of the needs for capital works in their areas and to prioritise their proposals on the basis of the assessments. The priority lists were taken into account in the framing of the Water Services Investment Programme 2002 – 2004. Given the priority afforded to the scheme by the council, the level of competing demands, and the funding available, it has not been possible to include it in the programme.
