I propose to take Questions Nos. 620 and 621 together.
The recently established State Examinations Commission has now been assumed statutory responsibility for operational matters relating to the certificate examinations including the granting of special arrangements for students with special needs taking the examinations.
Applications for special arrangements for candidates with special needs may be made to the State Examinations commission at Cornamaddy Athlone. The type of special arrangements which may be approved will depend on the individual needs and can take the form of rest periods, provision of visual aids, enlarged print, computer equipment, a reader, use of a tape recorder, dictation to a scribe, a braille translation, extra time or exemption from particular aspects of the assessment.
