Vol. 577 No. 5

Written Answers. - Garda Stations.

Róisín Shortall

Question:

182 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform further to his meeting of 10 November with Dáil Éireann representatives for Dublin north west, the steps he has taken to deal with the lack of Garda resources for Finglas, long delays in providing the promised closed circuit television for the area and the urgent need for a new Garda station; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [31893/03]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that the strength of Finglas Garda station, all ranks, was 69 on 16 December. At present it is ranked 26 on the Garda building programme priority list. The Office of Public Works has provided local Garda management with a list of possible sites and recommendation is awaited on which site is the most suitable.

Following a recent inspection of the station a programme of remedial work was agreed. The Office of Public Works is costing the work and sanction will be forthcoming in due course.

At present the provision of suitable space to accommodate the monitoring of CCTV cameras in Finglas Garda station is being considered. Its overall accommodation needs will be taken into account.
