JOINT COMMITTEE ON EUROPEAN AFFAIRS debate -
Wednesday, 27 Apr 2005

Business of Joint Committee.

Sadly, we have run over time. It was proposed that Deputies Carey and Gormley would speak to the committee on the EU constitutional treaty. However, we must vacate this committee room in 30 minutes. There is not enough time for a presentation and Deputy Gormley cannot attend as we have run over business. I suggest we postpone the presentation to a later date. Is that agreed? Agreed. It is proposed to defer consideration of the minutes of the last meeting to the next meeting. Is that agreed? Agreed.

Correspondence deferred from the previous meeting concerned the amending of rules of procedures for COSAC which will allow Ukraine to participate as an observer. I propose to defer this to the next meeting pending further information being sought by the secretariat. Is that agreed? Agreed.

I propose to note the decisions taken at the meetings of the Sub-Committee on European Scrutiny on 9 March 2005 and 14 April 2005; correspondence received from the Department of Foreign Affairs regarding the attendance of an official at the meeting of the committee on 4 May 2005; correspondence received from Deputy Gay Mitchell MEP regarding COM (2004) 629, a proposal for a single financial instrument for development co-operation and economic co-operation; articles from The Parliament Magazine, issue 201, 11 April 2005, which may be of interest to the joint committee; a report prepared by Kevin Leyden for the joint committee between the European Parliament and the national parliaments of member states on the financial perspectives; the agenda for the meeting of the national forum on Europe; the TACIS information and communications activities newsletter; correspondence received from the Department of Foreign Affairs regarding the attendance of officials at the meeting of the committee on 11 May 2005; a note from the Department of Foreign Affairs regarding investigations into allegations of wrongdoing in the implementation of the Iraq oil for food programme; the draft agenda for the forthcoming COSAC meeting which will take place in Luxembourg from 16 to 18 May 2005. Are they agreed? Agreed.

The joint committee went into private session at 3.32 p.m. and adjourned at 3.25 p.m. until 2.30 p.m. on Wednesday, 4 May 2005.
