Vol. 153 No. 5

Tribunals of Inquiry (Evidence) (Amendment) Bill, 1997: Committee Stage (Resumed) and Remaining Stages.

SECTION 5

Amendment No. 5 is in the name of Senator O'Meara and amendment No. 6 is cognate; both may be discussed together. Is that agreed? Agreed.

I move amendment No. 5:

In page 4, subsection (1), line 16, to delete "(Evidence)".

Amendments Nos. 5 and 6 seek to amend the Short Title of the Bill in the collective citation by the deletion of the word "(Evidence)". The Principal Act of 1921 is the Tribunals of Inquiry (Evidence) Act, 1921. This Bill amends that Act and must, therefore, incorporate in its Title that of the Principal Act, which it amends. Similarly, the collective citation must also incorporate the Title of the Principal Act. The amendments are unacceptable.

Amendment, by leave, withdrawn.
Amendment No. 6 not moved.
Section 5 agreed to.
Title agreed to.
Bill reported without amendment, received for final consideration and passed.
