Tuesday, 23 Mar 1999

Vol. 158 No. 14

Business of Seanad.

I have notice from Senator Avril Doyle that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, she proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs to extend the back to work allowance to persons with disabilities to allow them to access employment opportunities.

I have also received notice from Senator Taylor-Quinn of the following matter:

The reason the town of Kilrush was refused urban renewal status and the need for the Minister for the Environment and Local Government to put in place an appeal mechanism which would allow the Kilrush case to be reconsidered.

I have also received notice from Senator Mooney of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources to consider Drumshanbo, County Leitrim, as the location for the proposed secretariat to develop the aquaculture industry in the Border regions and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I have also received notice from Senator O'Meara of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment to appoint a jobs task force in the town of Roscrea following the announcement by C.M. Offray of its decision to close the Roscrea plant in May with a loss of 140 jobs.

I regard the matters raised by the Senators as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment and I have selected the matters raised by Senators Avril Doyle and Taylor-Quinn and they will be taken at the conclusion of business. The other Senators may give notice on another day of the matters they wish to raise.
