I have received notice from Senator Costello that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, he proposes to raise the following matter:
The need for the Minister for Foreign Affairs to detail the measures taken by his Department to assist a young Dublin man (details supplied) detained for five months in inhumane conditions in a prison in Thailand; the measures he proposes to ensure that the man does not return to prison in Thailand; and the need for the Minister to ensure that his Department has guidelines and procedures for protecting the civil and human rights of Irish citizens abroad.
I have also received notice from Senator Jackman of the following matter:
The need for the Minister of State at the Department of the Environment and Local Government to extend by three months the consultation period on the public consultation paper relating to the potential national ban on bituminous coal and petcoke.
I have also received notice from Senator Rory Kiely of the following matter:
The need for the Minister for Public Enterprise in conjunction with the Office of Public Works to restore the railway station in Knocklong, County Limerick, to its original and/or modern state and preserve it as a national historic monument.
I regard the matters raised by Senators Costello and Jackman as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment and they will be taken at the conclusion of business. I regret that I have had to rule out of order the matter raised by Senator Rory Kiely as the Minister has no official responsibility in the matter.
