Gnó an tSeanaid - Business of Seanad

Prior to reading Commencement matters, I welcome the guest of Senator Clonan, retired sergeant and UN veteran, Paul Clarke. He is very welcome. I thank him for his service around the world on behalf of the nation. Míle buíochas.

I also welcome Melview National School from Longford town, with teachers Kevin Reynolds, Conor Murphy, Eamonn Brennan and Kathleen O’Connell. They are guests of Deputy Joe Flaherty. I met them on the way into Leinster House. They are very welcome.

I have received notice from the following Senators that they propose to raise the following matters:

Senator Fiona O'Loughlin - The need for the Minister for Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth to make a statement on the continued use of the private rental market to house international protection beneficiaries.

Senator Lynn Boylan - The need for the Minister for Justice to make a statement on the use of tracking devices for stalking and to outline whether new regulations are required to allow for the disabling of such devices when used for this purpose.

Senator Tom Clonan - The need for the Tánaiste and Minister for Defence to outline whether information on the UN General Assembly Resolution 52/177 on the death and disability benefits scheme and Resolution 76/275 on the post-traumatic stress disorder framework for UN veterans scheme has been made available to Irish UN veterans and their families.

Senator Malcolm Byrne - The need for the Minister for the Environment, Climate and Communications to provide an update on the roll-out by local authorities of CCTV and other technologies to combat illegal dumping.

Senator Sharon Keogan - The need for the Minister for Justice to publish the legal advice received from the Attorney General on the EU asylum and migration pact.

Senator Annie Hoey - The need for the Minister for Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth to make a statement on his Department's funding of the role of the safeguarding officer in St. John Ambulance Ireland and whether this funding mechanism will be made available to similar organisations.

The matters raised by the Senators are suitable for discussion and I have selected Senators O'Loughlin, Boylan, Clonan and Byrne and they will be taken now. All other Senators may give notice on another day of the matters that they wish to raise.
