I am pleased to inform the Deputy that a design team has been appointed on the refurbishment and extension project at the above school, and a combined stage 1/2/3, detailed plans with costings, submission was requested in a letter to the school authorities in July of this year. On receipt of the requested submission, my Department's officials will be in a position to consider the school's application further. Progression of projects to construction will be considered in the context of the school building and modernisation programme 2005-09.

Progress on the project will, however, be considered in the context of the school building and modernisation programme from 2006 on under the allocation for large scale building projects. In the meantime, the school has been allocated temporary accommodation to meet its immediate needs.

My Department's officials contacted the relevant vocational education committee in September of this year requesting a condition report and asking them to confirm if this work could be done under the summer works scheme. The committee has submitted an application under the 2006 summer works scheme for the refurbishment of the building. Officials in my Department have commenced assessment of all applications, including the one in question and I will publish details of the successful applicants when this process is complete.
