As part of its hearings on utilising the Arts to combat disadvantage and to encourage greater integration and social inclusion within local communities, the Committee on Environment, Transport, Culture and the Gaeltacht will meet with the Graffiti Theatre Company, the GAA, Cork City Council and the Cork Academy of Music on Tuesday, 20th March.
Committee Cathaoirleach Ciarán Lynch, TD said: “We are looking forward to our meeting next Tuesday with representatives from the Graffiti Theatre Company, the GAA, Cork City Council and the Cork Academy of Music to discuss how the arts can be utilised to encourage greater integration and combat disadvantage within local communities.
Cultural, creative and arts groups and sporting organisations have always been an important part of Irish life and, in many cases, can be the social glue that holds society together, providing a sense of identity and being part of the community. Groups across the country are involved in innovative and inclusive programmes at a local level for all age groups and backgrounds. At our Committee meeting next Tuesday, a number of these groups from Cork and the GAA will have a chance to present and explain the various artistic activities that they engage in to promote social inclusion.
This meeting will take place on Tuesday, 20th March, in Committee Room 4, Leinster House 2000 at 2.15pm.
