Committee on the Implementation of the Good Friday Agreement visits Derry

A delegation from the Joint Committee on the Implementation of the Good Friday Agreement is visiting Derry today 29 March.

The delegation will meet with a number of organisations and individuals at the forefront of peace-building and community relations in the city.  

The delegation will visit:

  • The Junction, a community relations resource which runs a number of cross-community and training programmes on behalf of the local Council.
  • The Holywell Trust, founded in 1988, to foster community development and create a new society of active citizens.
  • The Old Library Trust Healthy Living Centre, is involved in health projects and broader community development work the Creggan area
  • Representatives of NGOs in Derry who are part of Human Rights Consortium, who support calls for a Bill of Rights for Northern Ireland, a central provision of the Good Friday Agreement
  • The Bloody Sunday Trust, a history and educational project established to commemorate the events of Bloody Sunday. 

The delegation will also meet with PSNI Superintendent Stephen Cargin and Rev David Latimer of the First Derry Presbyterian Church.

Committee Chair Joanna Tuffy TD says: “Reflecting the spirit of the Good Friday Agreement, the Committee is exploring practical ways towards reconciliation in all its discussions. The Committee today travels to Derry to view firsthand the efforts the representatives of organisations in the city, who are advancing community relations on the ground.”
