Party leaders to address Sub-Committee on the EU Fiscal Treaty

The newly established Oireachtas Sub-Committee on the EU Fiscal Treaty will continue its discussions on the Fiscal Treaty when it meets with a number of party leaders tomorrow, Tuesday, 17th April.

At its first session at 11.15am, Joe Higgins TD of the United Left Alliance will address the Committee.

Micheál Martin TD, Leader of Fianna Fáil, will follow with a presentation at 12.30pm.

Later on in the afternoon at 2.30pm the Committee will meet with Eamon Gilmore TD, Tánaiste, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, and Leader of the Labour Party.

Catherine Murphy TD, Technical Group Whip, will follow at 3.45pm.

Committee Chairman Dominic Hannigan TD said: “Our cross-party Sub-Committee is playing a key role in connecting the new Treaty with the Irish public in the run up to referendum day on 31 May. The Committee is meeting extensively this week, and tomorrow will hear from prominent voices in the Oireachtas.

“Tomorrow’s sessions will provide an opportunity for the Sub-Committee to engage with a number of party leaders and to gauge the reaction of political groups to the Treaty. We are also looking forward to questioning Joe Higgins, Micheál Martin, Eamon Gilmore and Catherine Murphy on their respective approaches to the Treaty.”

All the views put forward at our meetings will inform a Sub-Committee report to be published in advance of referendum day on Thursday 31st May.
