A number of leading academics, economists and business representatives will address the Oireachtas Sub-Committee on the EU Fiscal Treaty tomorrow, Wednesday 18th April, as it resumes its discussions on the Fiscal Treaty.

At its first session at 9.45am, the Committee will meet with Megan Greene, Roubini Global Economics; Jimmy Kelly and Michael Taft, Unite; and Professor Brian Lucey, Trinity College Dublin.

Seán Murphy, Chambers Ireland; Professor Terrence McDonough, NUI Galway; Dr Andrew Storey, University College Dublin; Professor Gerry Whyte, Trinity College Dublin will follow with presentations at 11.30am.

Committee Chairman Dominic Hannigan TD said: “Our cross-party Sub-Committee is playing a key role in connecting the new Treaty with the Irish public in the run up to referendum day on 31 May.

Tomorrow, we will continue our discussions on the Treaty and our meeting will provide an opportunity for the Sub-Committee to gauge the reaction of prominent academics, economists and business representatives to the Treaty, discuss what the Treaty means for Ireland and to establish and understand the facts of the Treaty.

We are also looking forward to questioning Megan Greene, Jimmy Kelly, Michael Taft, Professor Brian Lucey, Seán Murphy, Professor Terrence McDonough, Dr Andrew Storey and Professor Gerry Whyte on the views on the Treaty.”

All the views put forward at our meetings will inform a Sub-Committee report to be published in advance of referendum day on Thursday 31st May.
