Jobs Committee to discuss unemployment with Glen Dimplex boss Sean O’Driscoll

18 Apr 2012, 14:40

Group Chief Executive Sean O’Driscoll will address the Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Social Protection tomorrow, 19th April as part of the study it is carrying out on unemployment, particularly youth unemployment.

Chairman of the Committee Deputy Damien English said: “The Committee is undertaking a study on unemployment, with a particular emphasis on youth unemployment and is seeking submissions on the issue from interested groups and individuals. As well as welcoming written submissions, we are looking forward to further engagements with groups with an interest in this subject.

We are pleased that Glen Dimplex Group Chief Executive has agreed to attend our meeting tomorrow. Mr O’Driscoll has been Group Chief Executive of Glen Dimplex, one of Ireland’s leading manufacturing companies and one of the world’s largest manufacturers of electrical goods, since 1998. He has served as a member of the Enterprise Advisory Group established to advise on the implementation of enterprise strategy for Ireland and the high-level Group overseeing implementation of Ireland's Asia Strategy. He is known to have strong views on Ireland’s competitiveness and measures he feels are necessary to make Ireland more competitive. We are looking forward to getting Mr O’Driscoll’s perspective on unemployment and his suggestions on what further measures can be taken to tackle this problem.”

This meeting will take place in Committee Room 2, Leinster House at 10.30am on Thursday 19th April.
