Fiscal Treaty Sub-Committee to meet Sinn Féin President

24 Apr 2012, 12:29

Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams TD will address the Oireachtas Sub-Committee on the EU Fiscal Treaty tomorrow afternoon, Wednesday 25 April, as it resumes its discussions on the Treaty.

Deputy Adams will outline his party’s position on the upcoming referendum on the Treaty, to take place on 31 May, to the Sub-Committee on the Referendum on the Intergovernmental Treaty on Stability, Coordination and Governance in the Economic and Monetary Union.

Chairman of the Sub-Committee Dominic Hannigan TD said: “In leading the debate on the Fiscal Treaty, our cross-party Committee has been informed in recent weeks by a wide range of academic, political and civil society voices, from both sides of the debate.

“The Committee looks forward to exploring the Fiscal Treaty with the Sinn Féin President. Deputy Adams’ presence tomorrow allows us to tease out the concerns of Sinn Féin, who are leading voices in the opposition campaign to the Treaty nationally.

“Both sides of the debate are agreed that citizens should be equipped with the clear information they need when they go to vote on 31 May. All the views put forward, including this key address by Deputy Adams, will inform a Sub-Committee report to be published in advance of referendum day.”

The meeting begins at 2 p.m. tomorrow Wednesday 25 April in Committee Room 3, LH2000. Committee proceedings can be viewed online via this link: http://bit.ly/24YmPI
