Transport Committee to meet Chairman Designate of Fáilte Ireland

13 May 2014, 14:59

The Chairman Designate of Fáilte Ireland Michael Cawley appears before the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Transport and Communications tomorrow.

13 May 2014

Mr Cawley worked in Ryanair for 17 years until his retirement last March, having held the position as Deputy Chief Executive and Chief Operating Officer.

Chairman of the Committee John O’Mahony TD says: “In a distinguished career at the company, Mr Cawley played a pivotal role in developing Ryanair into one of Europe's leading airlines. Tomorrow’s meeting is a welcome opportunity for our Committee to engage with him on his vision for Fáilte Ireland and how the increases in tourist numbers to Ireland in recent years can be sustained.  The meeting will serve to contribute to transparency in appointments to State boards and a transcript of the discussion will be sent to the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport Leo Varadkar TD to assist in his final decision in the appointment process.”

The meeting takes place tomorrow Wednesday 14 May at 5:45 pm in Committee Room 1, LH 2000. Public proceedings can be viewed online here.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the move, through the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
