Committee on Budgetary Oversight to meet with Commission on Taxation and Welfare

3 Nov 2021, 11:00

The Committee on Budgetary Oversight will meet this evening to discuss taxation with Professor Niamh Maloney, Chair of the Commission on Taxation and Welfare.

Speaking ahead of the meeting at 5.30pm in Committee Room 2 of Leinster House, Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Neasa Hourigan said: “The Committee welcomes the establishment of the Commission on Taxation and Welfare, which was established in July 2021 as an independent body to consider how Ireland’s taxation and welfare systems can support economic activity and to promote increased employment and property.

“Today’s meeting provides an opportunity for the Committee to meet with the newly formed Commission and to understand its objectives for the year. We look forward to discussing the Commission’s terms of reference and priorities for the coming year with Professor Maloney and her colleagues. We also hope the Commission’s research and reports will provide the Committee with independent evidence and such research and reports may assist us in our own work.”

The meeting in Committee Room 2 can be viewed live on Oireachtas TV.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
