Joint Committee on Environment and Climate Action meet in Seanad Chamber to discuss ‘Youth Perspectives on the Climate Challenges’ with Foróige and Comhairle na nÓg

The Joint Committee on Environment and Climate Action will meet on Friday, 3 June, in the Seanad Chamber with representatives of Foróige and Comhairle na nÓg to for an engagement on ‘Youth Perspectives on the Climate Challenges’.

The meeting will begin at 11am with an address by the Cathaoirleach of Seanad Éireann, Senator Mark Daly, followed by opening remarks by the Cathaoirleach of the Joint Committee, Deputy Brian Leddin.

The meeting will then hear from young people from Foróige and Comhairle na nÓg before contributions from members of the Joint Committee. Deputy Leddin and Senator Daly will then give closing addresses.

Speaking ahead of the meeting, Deputy Leddin said: “This meeting of the Committee in the Seanad Chamber will see 30 youth representatives from Foróige and Comhairle na nÓg in attendance and Members will hear from 11 speakers from around the country and engage in a short question and answer session with them.

“The Committee is delighted to be hosting this meeting as it is very important we hear youth perspectives on the very significant challenges facing Ireland and the whole world in the next 30 years. It is hoped that this is the first of many engagements with young people on this important topic.”

The Joint Committee on Environment and Climate Action, chaired by Deputy Brian Leddin, has 14 Members, nine from the Dáil and five from the Seanad.
