President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen to address joint sitting of the Houses of the Oireachtas

President Ursula von der Leyen of the European Commission is to address a joint sitting of the Houses of the Oireachtas on December 1st as part of a visit to Dublin.

During her visit to Ireland President von der Leyen is also due to meet President Michael D. Higgins and An Taoiseach, Micheál Martin. She is also due to receive the Sutherland Leadership Award.

 She will become the second President of the European Commission to address the Oireachtas, with Jean-Claude Juncker having done so in 2018.

The address, which will take place in the Dáil chamber from 14:00 on Thursday, December 1st will be broadcast live on Oireachtas social channels and on Oireachtas TV, which is available on:

  • President Von der Leyden addresses Joint sitting; President takes seat on conclusion of address
  • Members make statements (total 62 minutes)
  • Ceann Comhairle exits Dáil Chamber; Leas-Cheann Comhairle takes the chair
  • Cathaoirleach makes concluding statement
  • Leas Ceann Comharile adjourns joint sitting
  • 15:30 - Commissioner departs Leinster House.
