Joint Committee on Housing, Local Government and Heritage to meet with National Oversight and Audit Commission (NOAC)

16 Jan 2023, 15:30

The Joint Committee on Housing, Local Government and Heritage will meet tomorrow, Tuesday, 17 January, with representatives from the National Oversight and Audit Commission (NOAC) for updates on its 2021 reports.

The meeting at 3pm in Committee Room 3 of Leinster House will discuss NOAC Local Authority Performance Indicator Report 2021 and NOAC Report 51: Public Spending Code Report 2021 with Michael McCarthy, Chair of NOAC; Margaret Lane, Chair of the Financial Management and Performance working group; Fiona Quinn, the Officer of the Minister and an Assistant Secretary in the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage; and Clare Gavin, Head of the NOAC Secretariat.

Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Steven Matthews said: “NOAC is responsible for the scrutiny and oversight of local government bodies and their implementation of national policies. NOAC published these two reports in November 2022.

“One examines performance across a range of areas and indicates where local authorities are performing well and allows them to review where performance can improved; the second provides an opportunity to review public spending decisions and expenditure incurred in the previous year and identify any areas requiring attention.

The Committee welcomes this opportunity to meet with NOAC again following our last engagement in May 2022 and looks forward to examining both reports and related matters with Mr McCarthy and his colleagues.”

The Joint Committee on Housing, Local Government and Heritage has 14 Members, nine from the Dáil and five from the Seanad.

The meeting in Committee Room 3 can be viewed live on Oireachtas TV.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
