Joint Oireachtas Committee on Tourism, Culture, Arts, Sport & Media meet to continue discussion on the development of local and community arts

The meeting in 2 sessions will hear from representatives from:  

Session 1

·       County and City Management Association

·       Dublin City Council

·       Cork City Council

·       Waterford City and County Council

Session 2

·       Una Mullally

·       Joe Caslin

·       Visual Artists Ireland

·       The Walls Project CLG

Speaking ahead of the meeting Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Niamh Smyth TD said “we continue our focus on the development of local and community arts with tomorrow’s meeting. Our Committee met with stakeholders at last week’s meeting who contribute to the inclusion of diversity and multiculturalism in local Irish arts and this week we concentrate on the development of local and community arts.  We, as a Committee, will continue to examine issues that impact the Irish arts sector. We have held meetings on wide-ranging issues relating to the Arts in Ireland with diverse stakeholders from the sector across the entire country. We are very aware of the positive contribution to Irish society by artists.

We will again engage with the groups attending tomorrow in order for our Committee to gain first-hand insight into what they believe the Government can implement in order to nurture and bolster local Irish and community arts.”
