Vol. 3 No. 19

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. [ ORAL ANSWERS. ] - ARRESTS AND SEIZURE OF LIVE STOCK NEAR WESTPORT.

asked the Minister for Agriculture (1) whether he is aware that men were arrested and live stock seized by the military on the lands of Kinnury, near Westport, on the 25th inst.; (2) whether in 1915 an agreement was drawn up with the consent of the landlord—Miss Crotty —by which the tenants on the estate became yearly tenants for the lands in the landlord's possession at a stipulated rent; (3) whether in the interval between the preparation and signing of the agreement the landlord changed her mind as to the term of letting, and thus a deadlock was arrived at; (4) whether the tenants tendered the rent each year and that it was refused; (5) whether matters have been further complicated in recent years by two landlords demanding rent on the Crotty estate; and (6) as the land in dispute will evidently come within the scope of the new Land Bill, he will adopt such measures as may ensure the release of the men arrested, the return of the live stock seized, and the staying of further proceedings pending the purchase of the estate.

I am making inquiries about this case, and I will communicate with the Deputy immediately I receive information on the matter.
