Vol. 37 No. 9

Written Answer. - Mayo Tenant's Complaint.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries whether he has received a complaint from Mr. T. Joyce, of Keel, Achill, County Mayo, a tenant on the former Achill Mission Estate, to the effect that his lands were being damaged by floods caused by certain improvement works carried out on the estate by the Land Commission and the late Congested Districts Board; and, if so, what action, if any, has been taken.

A complaint of the nature referred to by the Deputy was received from Mr. Thomas Joyce, Keel, Achill, but it was ascertained that the damage to his land was caused by floods from the mountain during abnormal rainfall, and not from any improvement works carried out by the late Congested Districts Board or the Land Commission.

Steps were taken by the Land Commission to remedy the flooding by the construction of a drain and gully, but the execution of the work was prevented by one of the tenants.
