(1) The gross total expenditure by public assistance authorities for the year ended the 31st March, 1936, was £1,937,481 and (2) the total of such expenditure spent on home assistance was £581,093.

The particulars sought by the Deputy are obtained from the local bodies in connection with the compilation of the returns of local taxation which are published annually. The returns of local taxation for the year ended the 31st March, 1937, will not be completed for some time.
