Vol. 230 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Dublin Flooding.

61.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will take steps to have the flooding remedied forthwith at Kenure, Rush, County Dublin, where there has been serious loss of crops.

The Land Commission have decided to undertake drainage work with a view to relieving the flooding at Kenure Park, Rush, County Dublin, provided the parties concerned co-operate in giving consent to this work being done and the beneficiaries agree to make reasonable contributions towards the cost.

A Land Commission inspector will consult with the parties in the matter at an early date.

Is the Minister aware that we were assured that an inspector would call before now, and will he take steps to see that an inspector will call, and that the work will be put in hands at the earliest possible date in view of the onset of bad weather now, and the probability of very serious flooding destroying other crops?

As the Deputy is aware, this is work which the Land Commission have taken on, but for which they are not responsible. I assume that an inspector will call at an early date. The Deputy will appreciate that co-operation is essential on this scheme. I understand there were two or three tenants who were not prepared originally to allow certain drainage to go ahead. Co-operation is necessary to enable the scheme to get under way in a hurry.

All I am asking for is a nudge from the Minister.

The nudge will come so far as my inspectors are concerned.
