Vol. 450 No. 6

Written Answers. - Licensing Laws.

Derek McDowell

Ceist:

128 Mr. D. McDowell asked the Minister for Justice if she will change the licensing laws governing public house opening times to allow for late opening at weekends. [5363/95]

A general review of the opening times of public houses and other licensed premises took place in the late 1980s. That review resulted in a liberalisation of the opening times generally, including at weekends, as provided in the Intoxicating Liquor Act, 1988. The Act achieved a fair balance between the competing demands of the various groups involved in the retail sale of alcohol. I have no plans at present for a further review of the opening times of licensed premises.
