Ahern asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications the estimated cost of the appointment by him of an accountant firm (details supplied) to assist the task force to review procedures in the commercial semi-State sector; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The appointment of the consultants, to assist the task force which I established to review certain procedures in the commercial state companies operating under the aegis of the Department of Transport, Energy and Communications, was made following a competitive tendering process in accordance with the Government procedures. The fee quoted by the successful consultant was £126,000 excluding VAT.
