Vol. 493 No. 3

Written Answers. - Dumping at Sea.

John Gormley

Ceist:

152 Mr. Gormley asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources if the task force on the dumping of radioactive materials in the maritime area established in 1997, which he has indicated is at an advanced stage in the preparation of its report, has taken into account in its deliberations and investigated thoroughly the information provided to it by Deputy Gormley in Parliamentary Question No. 38 of 13 November 1997 that Irish registered vessels has been involved in dumping materials in the Irish sea; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16155/98]

The allegations made by the Deputy in his question dated 13 November 1997 have been referred to the Task Force on the Dumping of Radioactive Waste in the Irish Sea, and the UK authorities were also apprised of the allegations and asked to assist in the investigation.

I understand that to date no information has come to light to support his allegations, which were rather vague. I would like to renew my invitation to him to communicate to me any further information he has which might assist the investigation.
