Vol. 496 No. 4

Written Answers. - Registration of Deaths.

Derek McDowell

Ceist:

229 Mr. McDowell asked the Minister for Health and Children the reason no response has been received from the Superintendent, Registrar of Deaths, in respect of applications made for the registration of the deaths of Irish seamen lost at sea during the emergency; and the reason no response has been received to an application (details supplied) first notified to the registrar on 20 November 1997. [23049/98]

The registration of deaths of Irish citizens domiciled in the State who were lost at sea in the manner referred to by the Deputy, is statutorily a matter for the Registrar-General of Births, Deaths and Marriages.

I have had inquiries made with the Registrar-General. I understand that the death in question has been registered and that a certificate has issued.
