Vol. 504 No. 2

Written Answers. - Pension Provisions.

John McGuinness

Ceist:

338 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Education and Science the entitlements, if any, of a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny in relation to his service in the Defence Forces which he joined in 1966; and if the years of service can be added to his service in his Department which he joined in 1976. [11687/99]

In accordance with the terms of agreed report 9/79 of the conciliation council for teachers, incremental credit may be awarded to a permanent teacher for relevant non-teaching experience.

I can confirm that the teacher referred to by the Deputy applied for incremental credit in respect of his service with the Defence Forces and he has been awarded the maximum credit allowable under the terms of agreed report 9/79.

Ceist:

339 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Education and Science if service in the Army can be added to service given in his Department for retirement pension for a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny; and if the case will be investigated with a view to assessing full entitlement. [11689/99]

The public service transfer scheme enables pensionable service to be transferred between public sector organisations. This would include pensionable service with the Defence Forces and pensionable service as a teacher. The person in question is employed as a teacher by County Kilkenny VEC. He has only recently contacted the VEC regarding the transfer of his earlier service with the Defence Forces. It is a matter for the VEC to establish whether the service with the Defence Forces was pensionable or is capable of being made pensionable and to advise the teacher of the outcome. If the teacher is not satisfied with the decision of the VEC, he will have the right of appeal to my Department.
