I am not aware of any proposals to provide a group water scheme for Firies-Scartaglen. However, proposals to serve the Firies-Scartaglen area by way of a regional water supply scheme have been submit ted to my Department by Kerry County Council. The scheme is included in the list of water and sewerage schemes submitted by Kerry County Council in response to my Department's request to local authorities to undertake a fresh assessment of the needs for capital works in their areas and to prioritise their proposals on the basis of the assessments.
Because of the level of competing demand and the need to prioritise individual proposals on a national basis, it was not possible to include all schemes proposed by local authorities in the Water Services Investment Programme 2000-2002. This is the first phase of a rolling three-year programme that will continue up to the end of the current national development plan in 2006. Further schemes will be added to the Programme on an annual basis during that period. The Firies/Scartaglin scheme will continue to be considered in that context.
