Vol. 529 No. 1

Written Answers. - School Staffing.

Brendan Howlin

Ceist:

1279 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for Education and Science the reason the appointment of a replacement domestic science teacher for Our Lady of Fatima Special School, Wexford town, has not been sanctioned; if he will ensure that this appointment is sanctioned without further delay; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2129/01]

The school referred to by the Deputy has, for some years, been allocated funding to employ a domestic science teacher for nine hours per week. This allocation remains in place and the school's board of management is responsible for employing a suitably qualified teacher to provide the service in question. My Department's inspectorate has recently reviewed the requirements for additional domestic science support in the school and has recommended that an additional one hour per week be allocated, bringing the total weekly allocation to ten hours. The school authorities have been advised of this allocation.
