Vol. 532 No. 4
148 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the position with regard to the planning of a new harbour for Dunmore East, County Waterford; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7637/01]
The comprehensive strategic review of current and future infrastructural needs at Dunmore East Fishery Harbour commissioned by my Department has now been completed. Recommendations arising regarding possible infrastructural upgrading and modernisation at Dunmore East Harbour are being evaluated. These recommendations will be addressed in the context of the National Development Plan, 2000 to 2006. The plan makes a substantial provision of £60 million for development of fishery harbours and related facilities.
149 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources when improvement works which are planned for Helvick, County Waterford are due to commence; the projected date of completion; and the costs of the project. [7638/01]
The harbour at Helvick is owned by Waterford County Council and development or maintenance of facilities there is, therefore, the responsibility of the local authority in the first instance. Waterford County Council submitted a proposal to my Department and to the Depart ment of Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands in relation to proposed development works at Helvick. The Department of Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands agreed to fund a site investigation at Helvick in 2000. The question of further funding for development works at this location will be considered in the context of available funding and the multiannual fishery harbour development programmes.
150 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the further works his Department intends carrying out at Ardmore, County Waterford in conjunction with Waterford County Council; the cost of such works; and the projected completion date. [7639/01]
Ardmore Harbour is owned by Waterford County Council and development or maintenance of facilities there is, therefore, the responsibility of the local authority in the first instance.
In 1999 my Department provided funding of £17,124.90 towards pier improvements costing a total of £22,833.19 at Ardmore. In 2000, further funding of £84,159.38 was provided towards pier improvements costing a total of £112,212.64 at Ardmore.
Waterford County Council wrote to my Department in November 2000 and confirmed that the pier improvement project at Ardmore was complete. To date, the county council has not made any proposal to my Department for further developments at Ardmore. Any proposals which the local authority wishes to put forward will receive careful consideration, having regard to the overall development needs of fishery harbours generally and the funding available for such works.
