Vol. 545 No. 1
239 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the position regarding a new sewerage scheme application (details supplied) in County Kildare; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [29506/01]
A proposal for a new waste water treatment plant and collection system for the Curragh, Brownstown, Cutbush and Suncroft areas of County Kildare was included in the list of water and sewerage schemes submitted by Kildare County Council in response to the Department's request to local authorities to undertake a fresh assessment of the needs for capital works in their areas and to prioritise their proposals on the basis of the assessments. The prioritisation indicated in these lists was taken into account in the framing of the Water Services Investment Programme 2000-2002, announced in July 2000. Given the priority afforded to the scheme by the council, the level of competing demand and the funding available, it was not possible to include the above scheme in the programme.
240 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the position regarding a new sewerage scheme application (details supplied) in County Kildare; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [29507/01]
The Athgarvan sewerage scheme is an element of the upper Liffey Valley regional sewerage scheme. The scheme could not progress until the Kilcullen element of the main scheme was completed. It was not, therefore, included in the first phase of the Water Services Investment Programme 2000-2002, announced in July 2000. Following substantial completion of the Kilcullen scheme in autumn 2001 a revised preliminary report for the Athgarvan scheme has been submitted by Kildare County Council and is currently under examination in my Department. Further consideration will be given to the approval of the scheme in the context of the next phase of the water services investment programme.
