I presume the Deputy is referring to animals slaughtered in the context of foot and mouth disease. The slaughter of animals in the infected premises in Proleek and the precautionary cull of susceptible species in the Cooley Peninsula resulted in the slaughter of 48,744 sheep; 166 goats; 1,123 cattle; 2,908 pigs; and 280 deer, 117 farmed. Expenditure to date on compensation in the Cooley area amounts to £6,671,258 million.
There were also animals slaughtered outside Cooley on a precautionary basis as follows: 3,826 sheep; two goats; and 857 cattle. Outside the Cooley area compensation payments, including payments to factories for meat condemned, amount to £1.07 million. Apart from this, other costs were incurred on slaughter, rendering, disposal and transport etc. If the Deputy is referring to animals slaughtered in the context of any other particular named disease, he might contact my office.
