I intend to bring forward a number of proposals to amend the Waste Management Act, 1996, in the context of the Environmental Protection Agency (Amendment) Bill, 2002. These will, in particular, facilitate full implementation of Council Directive 96/11/EC and integrated pollution prevention and control in so far as significant waste facilities are concerned, and address certain improvements and refinements, the desirability of which has been identified over the period since 1996.
