The OECD report on regulatory reform in Ireland published in 2001 was followed by a Government action programme on regulatory reform which is co-ordinated by the Department of the Taoiseach. Within this programme all Departments and offices have responsibility for actions in their specific functional areas.
A high level group on regulation under the aegis of the Department of the Taoiseach, comprising Government Departments and agencies, key regulatory authorities, the Competition Authority and the Office of the Director of Consumer Affairs, oversees implementation of the response to the OECD report and advises the Government. A progress report by the high level group on regulation was published on www.betteregulation.ie in December 2002 and was also placed in the Oireachtas Library. This report outlines progress made in relation to the OECD recommendations on regulatory reform.
