Vol. 577 No. 1

Written Answers. - Travel Visas.

Dinny McGinley

Ceist:

100 Mr. McGinley asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs his views on the refusal of the US Government to grant a visa to the wives of two men imprisoned within the US in order to visit their spouses. [30434/03]

The case raised by the Deputy relates to five Cuban citizens who were convicted in the US in December 2001 on charges ranging from espionage to first degree murder. The wives of two of the prisoners have been attempting to acquire travel visas from the US authorities that would allow them visit their husbands in jail. The Irish Government has no official standing in this matter which is a bilateral consular issue between the Cuban and US authorities.
