Committee on European Union Affairs to discuss European Movement Ireland’s Accountability Campaign Report

12 DFómh 2011, 15:23

Noelle O’Connell, Billie Sparks, and Jenny Flynn from European Movement Ireland will appear before the Oireachtas Joint Committee on European Union Affairs tomorrow, Thursday, October 13th, to discuss its Accountability Campaign Report 2010.

Joe Costello, TD, Chairman of the Committee on European Union Affairs, said:  “As a Committee we are only too aware that it is ever more important that the policies emanating from the European Union are properly examined and that this Committee fully utilises its opportunities for engagement with the EU institutions to monitor and influence the political and strategic direction of the Union as a whole in the coming years.

The European Movement Ireland is a not-for-profit organisation working to make the connection between Irish people and the EU. Throughout 2010, its Accountability Report measured key indicators tracking Ireland’s engagement with the EU, such as the number of Irish submissions to the European Commission Consultations, MEP participation and attendance at European Council meetings by Irish Government Ministers. Tomorrow, we will have the opportunity to examine the findings of the report and discuss how Ireland engages with the EU.”

The Committee will meet at 11.30am on Thursday, 13th October, in Committee Room 3, Leinster House 2000.
