The issue of Non-Consultant Hospital Doctors (NCHDs) will continue to be discussed by the Committee on Health and Children at its meeting tomorrow, Thursday, 13th October at 11.30 am in Leinster House.
The Committee will be briefed by representatives of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland, the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and the Institute of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.
Chairman of the Committee on Health and Children, Jerry Buttimer, TD said: \"Tomorrow’s meeting is the second of a series of three meetings that we are having with the various groups and stakeholders involved in the area of NCHDs. We met last week with James Reilly, TD Minister for Health on this issue.
The Committee has identified this topic as one of its key policy priorities. Tomorrow’s meeting gives the Committee an opportunity to hear about the current progress and plans for the future for the education and on-going training of our junior hospital doctors. We are all aware of the problems being experienced maintaining our doctors in the Irish Health Care System and the issue of career path development must form part of the on-going solution to this.”
In addition, the Committee will also examine the process of how it will carry out scrutiny of legislative proposals from the European Union.
The Committee will meet at 11.30 am on Thursday, 12th October, in Committee Room 2, Leinster House 2000.
