Priority issues for Food, Food Safety, Forestry and Horticulture to be discussed at meeting of the Oireachtas Agriculture Committee

17 DFómh 2011, 16:14

The Committee on Communications, Natural Resources and Agriculture will meet with Shane McEntee, TD, Minister of State with responsibility for Food Safety, Forestry and Horticulture on tomorrow, Tuesday, 18th October at 1.30 pm in Leinster House. The Minister of State will brief the Committee on his priority issues in the food, food safety, forestry and horticulture sectors.

Speaking ahead of the meeting, Chairman of the Committee on Communications, Natural Resources and Agriculture, Andrew Doyle, TD, said: “Ireland’s agri-food sector has shown strong growth and exports for the first six months of 2011 are estimated to have increased by more than €500 million on the 2010 annual figure of €7.9 billion.  The safety and quality of our food industry is critical to the reputational value and worth of this industry.

Our meeting tomorrow will also give members of the Committee an opportunity to discuss the key policy priorities for the Government in relation to the future of our forests and also the current state of our horticulture industry.   I look forward to discussing these and many other related issues with the Minister.”

The Committee will meet at 1.30 pm on Tuesday, 18th October in Committee Room 3, Leinster House 2000.
