Committee on Environment, Transport, Culture and the Gaeltacht to visit Loch Derg water extraction point on the river Shannon, Terryglass, Co Tipperary

Members of the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Environment, Transport, Culture and the Gaeltacht will visit the proposed Loch Derg water extraction point on the river Shannon, Terryglass, Co Tipperary tomorrow, Wednesday, 26th October 2011.

Proposals are in place to pump water from this point to a storage reservoir at Garryhinch Bog, Co Laois and Co Offaly and a Committee Delegation previously visited this site on 20 July 2011.

The Committee has also invited Oireachtas Members from the constituencies bordering Loch Derg to participate in the delegation.

The delegation will be given a tour of the area and a full briefing from interested parties and stakeholders in the area. Committee members will also ask questions regarding the viability and environmental sustainability of the project.

MEDIA ARE INVITED TO ATTEND

Attending Committee members will be available for interview.

Time: 11am-4.30pm, Wednesday, 26th October.

11:20 a.m. Board craft - Visit proposed extraction point and short tour of lake
