The Joint Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defence will meet today, Tuesday April 5th, to discuss Amnesty International’s report Israel’s Apartheid against Palestinians.
The meeting will take place in Committee Room 2 of Leinster House from 15.15.
Jackie Goodall, Alan Shatter, Audrey Griffin from Ireland Israel Alliance will attend the meeting and Yoseph Haddad an Arab Israeli citizen of Israel and CEO of ‘Together - Vouch for Us’, an Israeli NGO, will join the meeting remotely from New York.
The Ireland Israel Alliance (IIA) is a non-profit organisation based in Dublin.
Speaking ahead of the meeting, Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Charlie Flanagan said: “The IIA will appear before the Committee to discuss the recently published Amnesty International report entitled Israel’s apartheid against Palestinians: a cruel system of domination and a crime against humanity.”
The Committee has already heard from the authors of the report, Amnesty International, and this meeting provides the opportunity for members of the Committee to hear from those representing Israeli interests in respect of the findings the conclusions contained in the report.
“Ireland’s position on these matters is based on international law, which sets out obligations under the Fourth Geneva Convention for Israel as the occupying power, and on the relevant resolutions of the UN Security Council.”
“We look forward to engaging with members of the IIA regarding the topics and issues raised in the report and other related matters.”
