17 Aib 2024, 11:51

The Joint Committee on Transport and Communications will meet today, Wednesday, 17th April 2024, with representatives from SIPTU for discussion on their recent survey relating to anti-social behaviour on public transport at 1:30pm in Committee Room 2 of Leinster House.

Speaking ahead of the meeting, Committee Leas-Chathaoirleach Senator Gerry Horkan said: “We look forward to discussion this afternoon with SIPTU on their campaign entitled “Respect Public Transport Workers”. Its aim is to draw attention to and seek ways to deal with increasing reports of various types of anti-social behaviour that are taking place across all modes of Public Transport.

“We will take this opportunity to discuss with SIPTU the information gathered from this important survey and what plans and strategies they would recommend to our Committee so that we can be in a position to bring these first-hand perspectives on the challenges facing the staff and passengers of public transport to the Department of Transport.”

The meeting in Committee Room 2 can be viewed live on Oireachtas TV.

The Joint Committee on Transport and Communications has 14 Members, nine from the Dáil and five from the Seanad.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
