21 Beal 2024, 15:15

The Joint Committee on Disability Matters will meet on Wednesday May 22nd to discuss progressing children’s disability services.

The meeting will take place in Committee Room 1 of Leinster House at 5:30pm.

The following representatives are due to appear:

Dr Noreen O’Leary - Lecturer, School of Population Health, Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland
Ms Geraldine Moran - Assistant Professor, School of Allied Health, University of Limerick

Speaking ahead of the meeting, Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Michael Moynihan said: “We welcome the opportunity to resume our discussions on progressing disability services for children. Dr O’Leary and Ms Moran analysed twenty-eight HSE key policy and procedure documents to determine the evidence base for progressing disability services.”

“A key recommendation of the Global Report on Children with Developmental Disabilities (WHO and UNICEF Sept 2023) was the need to strengthen the capacity of disability services to provide inclusive and people-centered evidence-based care which can be responsive to evolving healthcare needs.”

“We look forward to discussing the service-delivery model underpinning PDS and the reconfiguration of services and new developments in delivery models and frameworks for disability services needed to achieve improvements and greater effectiveness for children and families in the Irish context.”
