Education and Training Boards (ETBs) manage and deliver a wide range of education services through various types of educational institutions or ‘ETB centres’, including Community National Schools, Post-Primary Schools, Further Education (FE) colleges, and a range of adult and further education centres. ETBs serve as the legal entities or statutory education authorities; they do not directly administer further education but do so through their various ETB centres. In other words, an ‘ETB centre’ is a physical location or facility that is operated and managed by an ETB.
Some ETB centres have their own branding and are locally recognised by their brand name rather than the name of the ETB to which they belong such as Dún Laoghaire Further Education Institute. However, such centres are not independent legal entities, the ETBs under which they operate are.
Dún Laoghaire Further Education Institute is an ETB centre that operates under Dublin and Dún Laoghaire ETB (DDLETB). Funding for Dún Laoghaire Further Education Institute (including funding for staff costs) is provided as part of annual funding to DDLETB from SOLAS and all apprentice Instructors are employed directly by the DDLETB.
