Committee on Key Issues affecting the Traveller Community (2023)

The Committee was established to consider policy directions in respect of key issues affecting the Traveller community with regard to human rights principles.

In particular, the Committee aims for consensus on the key issues of Travellers' experience of the justice system, matters related to mental health among Travellers, progress on employment opportunities for Travellers and the implementation of the final report of the Joint Committee on Key Issues affecting the Traveller Community from November 2021.

In carrying out its role, and in accordance with its terms of reference, the Committee may review the work carried out by the previous Joint Committee on Key Issues affecting the Traveller Community during the 32nd Dáil and the previous Joint Committee on Key Issues affecting the Traveller Community during the 33rd Dáil and shall be provided with access to all submissions and relevant documentation of the respective Committees.

Motions were moved in the Dáil and the Seanad establishing the Committee.
