asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that the closing of a branch railway in County Mayo has resulted in additional traffic on certain roads with consequent deterioration of such roads; and if in view of the fact that other counties in which railways have been closed were provided with special road grants it is his intention to have equal treatment given to Mayo.

An application for a road improvement grant for roads affected by railway closings has been received from Mayo County Council and is being examined in conjunction with similar applications from other road authorities.
